Troop 125 is a well-established and experienced troop providing a program for young men that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over 60 years 125 has produced some of the finest Eagle Scouts in the area by combining educational activities and lifelong values with FUN. We have an active year-round program that encourages our members to earn rank advancement, to learn leadership and life skills, and to become experienced outdoorsman, all in a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere. We are a youth-led troop supervised by experienced and dedicated adult leaders. Troop 125 has long prided itself in keeping the “outing” in Scouting because we know the real fun and adventure is in the outdoor events. The Troop goes camping at least once a month, has a day hike about every other month, and hosts a variety of annual one day events like Troop Day and the water, pillow and food fights. The campouts typically are on weekends as well as a week long summer camp and backpacking trip. For the older experienced Scouts (age 14 and up) we have a Ventureprogram which focuses on more extensive Scout skills and high adventure activities. We have monthly themes to our weekly meetings like cooking, first aid and movie making. We earn funds for our troop by parking cars at the PCAM Air Show, Peggy Sue car show, wreath sales and serving crab at the Santa Rosa Rotary West's annual Crab Feed. We celebrate accomplishments and recognize our scouts with unique awards and Troop 125 competes in the annual District Camporee and are currently the reigning champions for six consecutive years.
Troop 125 was established in 1953 when a group of neighbors decided to start a local Troop to service the youth in the area. Collectively, the founders decided to establish a permanent Troop with a strong foundation to grow from and a place to meet. With a few hand shakes Troop 125 had a home commonly referred to as the “Scout Hut” and five core concepts were decided to define Troop 125:
1) Youth Led 2) Dedicated Adults 3) Self Guided Advancement 4) Active and Outdoor Based Program 5) FUN!
The founders saw the wisdom in the methods of scouting that youth should lead youth; guided by dedicated adult volunteers who will share their knowledge and experiences with the Scouts by helping them earn advancement by their choice; while engaging in a high quality program carried out in the great outdoors; all centered around the simple word, FUN. These core concepts define us to this day.
